Hello there, peeps!
It is May 4th, Star Wars Day, and, coincidentally, the end of the Winter 2012 Semester here at NMU. I have managed to survive my first full course load in a year, and I didn't do as well as I could have. I am confident that I passed all of my classes, but I know that I'm not going to be getting the best of grades in at least one of my classes.
Sociology. I loved the shit out of this class; it made me think about a lot of things considered "normal" in society, and...I don't know. It was great. It made me think. UNFORTUNATELY, I have discovered that pop quizzes are the devil, and I know I did not get higher than a C on that front. If I'm lucky. I will take quizzes all of the days, just tell me about them first, por favor. This class was also the class that I skipped if I was too swamped with work. Granted, that only happened twice...but I still think that negatively affected my performance in that class.
My other classes this semester were Intro to Graphic Communications, Intro to Illustration, Narrative and Descriptive Writing, and Belly Dancing.
The only class this semester I didn't like was GraphComm. I really don't think I gained much from that class, but it was necessary for my major. On the bright side, I made this class a challenge for myself, trying to come up with ways to make the otherwise boring projects interesting. That's where my fabulous cube project came from.
Intro to Illustration was a good class. It's the first Illustration class that I've been able to take (which puts me really far behind, but what are you gonna do?), and I really enjoyed it. There are some projects from the old teacher that I wish I was able to do in that class (like comic stuff!), but I learned a lot from what we were able to do. I've started to put more consideration into composition than I used to, and HOLY SHIT, WHAT IS THIS PERSPECTIVE THING? I have never used it so much in my life! That's not a bad thing, though.
My writing class was an online class, and I enjoyed that. Most of the time, I pulled the writings out of thin air an hour before they were due, but it was fun. The workshops, not so much, but oh well.
BELLY DANCING. Oh my goodness, that class was so much fun. We're required to take at least one phys ed class at NMU, and it was between fencing and belly dancing for me. Well, one of my friends was going to take belly dancing with me, so that's the route I went. And I'm glad I did. I love dancing. I'm not terribly good at it, by any stretch, but it is so much fun.
And a little culture in everyone's life is a good thing. I got to perform in a recital at the end of the semester, and got to perform in a small group along with the entire class, which was pretty cool!
As for social stuff, I'm really glad I was able to fall back in with my old friends up here. I've gotten a lot closer to them, and I've made a few new friends, too.
My one regret of the semester is not getting back into band again, but I think that I'm moving past that part of my life. I miss playing, but carrying around a 40 pound instrument takes its toll on your back, and I'm pretty certain mine's had enough. Besides, I really need to find a job, and band takes up a lot of time for very little credit.
Speaking of jobs! I get to go work on Mackinac Island this summer! I got an internship in a studio in one of their art museums. My job is essentially going to be doing arts and crafts with the kids all summer. I'm excited.
The next few months, with it being summer and all, are most likely going to be a little slow, artwork-wise. My internet access is going to be limited, therefore my access to my art programs is going to be limited, too. I am going to upload a ton of stuff in the next week, though, from all the stuff I've done this semester, but after that...We shall see.
