Sooooooo, how's it going, dA? I have been incredibly neglectful of my account here; these days I use tumblr as my primary social media outlet, so the others tend to be neglected, including this one.

So, we'll start things off with a quick recap of what I've been up to recently.

Graduating and other life updates
This December, I will be graduating from Northern Michigan University with my BFA in Illustration. I have work up in a senior exhibition that opens up on the 1st of December, so I'm hella pumped for that (I'm also thankful that the work is done and over with).

I am happily living with my SO in our very own apartment. Things are working out crazy-well for us, despite my snoring and aversion to washing dishes! We're probably going to be staying up in Marquette for the winter (the long, bitterly cold winter), and then start checking out places in Chicago.

C2E2
On that note, we'll also be attending C2E2 in April! It'll be my first con, and I'm hoping to put together a Cassandra Pentaghast cosplay and also a couples cosplay of The Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend from The Venture Bros. If any of those fall through, I'll probably just dress up as Tina from Bob's Burgers.

Biome
This fall, I joined this pretty rad roleplaying group, :iconpokemonbiome:, and as of early this week, I have joined the moderator's team! If anyone's looking for a new Pokémon group to join, I'd definitely recommend it; we're pretty chill there, and it's pretty new, so everyone's still getting to know one another. Even if you aren't that into Pokémon, I'd still recommend it; the mod team's worked really hard so far to put together something that'll be enjoyable for everyone!

I've also changed up my Skype recently, because I absolutely hated my old username. My Skype UN is now iambruceliane. Feel free to add me, but make sure you tell me who you are first or I won't accept your request >:U

It has been a year since I've last written a new journal entry. I would say whoops, but I think after a certain point, it became less of a case of negligence and more of a case of "well, I don't see why I need to."

SO, what have I been up to in the past year? A lot and not very much at the same time. Artistically speaking, all of my free time has gone to :iconduality-oct:, a Pokémon OCT that takes place in medieval Unova. It started up just about this time last year, and is now going into its fifth round. My character for it is Drelia Thorne. She's currently the last thief standing, and one of eight competitors left. Seeing that Duality's the first OCT I've ever participated in, I am damn proud of making it this far. With the competition I have, though, I'm definitely going to have to step up my game if I intend to make it any further. :'D

I am taking some pretty cool courses this semester in school (last semester was art history and theory, and just generally unenjoyable). I have my 300-level illustration course, which has a focus on anatomy and combining traditional and digital elements in our art. Right now we're working with the theater on campus to make a poster for a production of Jack and the Beanstalk they're putting on next spring, and could potentially get paid for our poster design (or, if one of us gets incredibly lucky, will be offered a job to design all their posters for a season). I'm also taking an animation class, which I have a love-hate relationship with. A lot of the class deals with special effects, but many of our projects also offer hand-drawn animation as an option (even though they don't really teach us anything about it). I've quickly discovered that I do not care for actually filming or acting on camera, but the drawn animation I've done so far has been rather enjoyable.

Otherwise, I'm living in an apartment with my boyfriend and some pretty cool friends. My social life, although it's still fairly non-existent (because I easily fall into grouchy hermit mode, whoops), is picking up, and I'm making some new friendships on campus, which is also fantastic.

Um...yeah. This has been your yearly update. Hopefully I'm not so neglectful of this in the future. :'D

Also also, would anyone be up for an art trade? Ideally, I would like to use the art I produce for these to advertise commissions, but if that's not cool by you, just lemme know!

Hey all! I am currently working on a project for Social Structures, one of my art cognate classes, that toys with the idea of collaboration. I want to illustrate a story that is written by you guys (and your friends! And their friends!). I have a Google document set up here: docs.google.com/document/d/1A_…  And read through the stuff at the top, and feel free to add whatever you want, wherever you want! Seriously, your help would be IMMENSELY appreciated. This project won't work without you guys.

OH GOD, WHY?

1 min read
I feel so dirty, guys...This is just weird...After having the same username for FOUR YEARS and then changing it up. OH GOD, WHY? Well, honestly, I didn't do ANYTHING with that panda stuff, so pffft. Also, I am not a panda. Thirdly, I am super-fond of this nickname that I got back in my freshman year of college, so I use it. A lot...

But yeah, TLDR: I am bruceliane, the artist formerly known as a panda.

Hello there, peeps!

It is May 4th, Star Wars Day, and, coincidentally, the end of the Winter 2012 Semester here at NMU. I have managed to survive my first full course load in a year, and I didn't do as well as I could have. I am confident that I passed all of my classes, but I know that I'm not going to be getting the best of grades in at least one of my classes.

Sociology. I loved the shit out of this class; it made me think about a lot of things considered "normal" in society, and...I don't know. It was great. It made me think. UNFORTUNATELY, I have discovered that pop quizzes are the devil, and I know I did not get higher than a C on that front. If I'm lucky. I will take quizzes all of the days, just tell me about them first, por favor. This class was also the class that I skipped if I was too swamped with work. Granted, that only happened twice...but I still think that negatively affected my performance in that class.

My other classes this semester were Intro to Graphic Communications, Intro to Illustration, Narrative and Descriptive Writing, and Belly Dancing.

The only class this semester I didn't like was GraphComm. I really don't think I gained much from that class, but it was necessary for my major. On the bright side, I made this class a challenge for myself, trying to come up with ways to make the otherwise boring projects interesting. That's where my fabulous cube project came from. :D

Intro to Illustration was a good class. It's the first Illustration class that I've been able to take (which puts me really far behind, but what are you gonna do?), and I really enjoyed it. There are some projects from the old teacher that I wish I was able to do in that class (like comic stuff!), but I learned a lot from what we were able to do. I've started to put more consideration into composition than I used to, and HOLY SHIT, WHAT IS THIS PERSPECTIVE THING? I have never used it so much in my life! That's not a bad thing, though.

My writing class was an online class, and I enjoyed that. Most of the time, I pulled the writings out of thin air an hour before they were due, but it was fun. The workshops, not so much, but oh well.

BELLY DANCING. Oh my goodness, that class was so much fun. We're required to take at least one phys ed class at NMU, and it was between fencing and belly dancing for me. Well, one of my friends was going to take belly dancing with me, so that's the route I went. And I'm glad I did. I love dancing. I'm not terribly good at it, by any stretch, but it is so much fun. :) And a little culture in everyone's life is a good thing. I got to perform in a recital at the end of the semester, and got to perform in a small group along with the entire class, which was pretty cool!

As for social stuff, I'm really glad I was able to fall back in with my old friends up here. I've gotten a lot closer to them, and I've made a few new friends, too. :D My one regret of the semester is not getting back into band again, but I think that I'm moving past that part of my life. I miss playing, but carrying around a 40 pound instrument takes its toll on your back, and I'm pretty certain mine's had enough. Besides, I really need to find a job, and band takes up a lot of time for very little credit.

Speaking of jobs! I get to go work on Mackinac Island this summer! I got an internship in a studio in one of their art museums. My job is essentially going to be doing arts and crafts with the kids all summer. I'm excited. :D

The next few months, with it being summer and all, are most likely going to be a little slow, artwork-wise. My internet access is going to be limited, therefore my access to my art programs is going to be limited, too. I am going to upload a ton of stuff in the next week, though, from all the stuff I've done this semester, but after that...We shall see.
